Organization of files: more details…
Let’s see in details the files organization we post yesterday.
First of all we have created a main folder with the name of the project: “Eleven O’Clock“.
Inside it we can find 3 folders.
“Production” is the folder containing that files regarding pre-production and production.
There are screenplay, shot-list and a schedule where we note down everytime the project’s progress.
“Common” contains all the files used during modelling, shading and rigging. Here we have folders like “Characters“, “Enviroments” and “Props“.
Inside these folders there is a subfolder for every model we have, like “HUB” (that is the toy robot) and “Herbert” (the cuckoo bird).
For example, inside “Hub” we have the folder “model“. We start modelling the character here. The subfolder “texture” contain all the texture we use for shading.
And there is another folder inside “Hub” named “rig“. When we finish the character, we copy that file inside this folder and we start to rig it.
During the work we made different version of files. For example in “Hub“->“model” folder you could have hub_v01.blend, hub_v02.blend…
It’s important to save a copy of the last version of your file without version number, just with the name of the model (ex. hub.blend).
This is very important step, because this file will be the one you will link in the scenes.
In this way you will be sure you are using the latest version of the model and you don’t have to change links each time.
Inside “Eleven O’Clock” we have also a folder named “Scenes“: we make here all the animation.
Here we have many subfolder as the scenes of the movie are,
and every scene has many “Shot” subfolder as the shot are.
For example we have Scenes -> Scene 01 -> Shot01. In this folder we have a Blender file of our first shot, inside it we have all the models linked in (this is why we use to rename the latest version of files, remeber?).
In this file we work on the animation and refine the lighting of this shot.
So this is how we managed our files. What do you think about it??

I think it’s the right way to do that, i suppose that all the files are on a network, like a intranet?
Of course!
Everything is on our nas (network attached storage)!
And anyone can access on its own user account from any workstation!
There’s nothing stored locally.
We found that way the most useful for us because it prevents from strange duplication or big waste of time finding the right version of any asset!
Hope this helps!
